To be honest, if it takes more than 30 min to master a 3 min song, either the mix is royally screwed up, you're milking the clock or you're doing something wrong. And for the record, without clients in the room it normally takes me about 5 Hours to master a 9 song record, and I don't do "one pass" mastering. They spend the time it takes to make a record sound as good as it will get. I wouldn't hesitate to have After Dark engineers UE Nastasi or Steve Fallone master a record of mine and I'm a mastering engineer. I would consider 9 songs in 4.6 hours as "one pass" mastering. ![]() You're paying a premium for the name on your cd. Mastering Engineer at another studio to spend much more time making sure your master comes out as GOOD AS IT CAN PERIOD.
